Mass communications is an industry and media are businesses. Each medium is unique, with different lines of transmitting a message as well as different laws to govern them. I started to use the word "regulate" instead of "govern," but mass media was more or less deregulated by the FCC under the leadership of Michael Powell. There are various opinions about the effects of consolidation in the media industry and, of course, I have my own. This blog is designed to stimulate thought and debate on the current effects of consolidation as well as future projections. I look forward to your input.
